At the east side of Santorini, Anafi is something of a travelers’ dead end. If rest is what you desire, you will have it here in abundance. Not that this is likely to bother most of the visitors, who come here for weeks in midsummer to enjoy exactly that: its privacy. Although idyllic geographically, Anafi is a harsh place, its mixed granite and limestone core overlaid by volcanic rock spewed out by Santorini’s eruptions. Apart from the few olive trees and vines grown in the valleys, the only plants that seem to thrive are prickly pears.
The island’s capital is built on the slopes of high mountains, on an altitude of 200 meters, boasts a unique natural landscape and a fascinating view to the Aegean Sea. Chora is the center of the island’s activity, as most of the island’s restaurants, bars and amenities can be found there. You will also discover many hidden natural secrets, such as caves, natural footpaths, and spots with a breathtaking view of the Aegean Sea.
