Glamorous Mykonos is the wealthy member of the Cycladic family, home to a jet set party scene that draws cosmopolitan crowds year after year, with prices to match. If you want to take a walk through the galleries and Gucci pop-ups by day and drink cocktails or dance on the beach by night, Mykonos is the place to be.
For those who want to spend time on the island without being drawn into the scene can get lost in the picturesque streets of the whitewashed main town or visit one of the island’s countless beaches, which range from party-hard Psarou to naturist-friendly Agrari and Agios Sostis or active Kalo Livadi and Lia. It is the island’s highlight to sit for a drink during sunset time in Little Venice, where 18th century sea captain’s mansions seem to rise out of the sea and you can take a photo with the island’s famous resident pelican or hilltop windmills.
Mykonos is also the closest island to the archaeological site at Delos. The small island was the center of the Cyclades during the Classical era as both one of the largest trade sites of the Mediterranean and the mythological birthplace of twin ancient Gods Apollo and Artemis.
